1974 620 Series Datsun Pickup $1500

4/17/2011 - The truck was sold today, to a real nice guy in PA. He was quite enthusiastic about it, and I think it has found a good home.

This 1974 Datsun was purchased new by my grandfather in 1974. He passed away in 1977, and this was transferred his daughter (my aunt) who has owned it since then.

I called her recently to see if I could borrow the truck to haul some dirt I needed for my yard. She asked if I would like to have the truck. Are you kidding?

So begins my project. It was hard starting, but it did start. I drove it to the gas station and filled it up, and took it home. It has 58,669 original miles on it. My grandfather put 40,000 on it before he passed away.

My first hint of this being a money pit was when I looked and the gas was leaking out of the tank. I siphoned it down to 1/4 tank and it's holding. Either it's a hose or a hole in the tank. I will assess this when I get the tank off.

It also had almost no brakes. When I pulled it in my driveway, it rolled back into the street. I could not stop it with the pedal to the floor.

I looked in the brake fluid reservoir and the front one was nothing but sludge.

I called my aunt back, and thanked her profusely for letting me have the vehicle, but told her I may not be able to take it with the needed repairs. Money is too tight right now.

She wants me to keep the truck. I am assessing the repairs to make it driveable. I am looking for someone to upholster the seat, and to weld new floorpans in. If you can provide this at a good price, please contact me! datsun@gwfweb.com

So the saga begins...
