Silence of the Tundra

Project complete.  The difference in the CAB noise is incredible.  I only did the back wall and the doors.  I can imagine if I do the floor and headliner.  I may or may not do those.  Let's see how much Brown Bread is left after I do my kids cars.  I can crank the Pioneer until the windows blur and no rattles or distortion.  You'd swear I have a sub in there somewhere.  It has a lot of punch!

I ordered 70 Sq. Ft. of a product called Brown Bread.  This is a product much like Dynamat for deadening interior noise for better sound quality.  I also ordered some acoustic foam to quiet the cap even further.  This took all evening.  The first door took hours.  The second door maybe one hour as I learned from the first one.  The rear of the cab was quite simple.

Tomorrow I will tackle the front doors.  I doubt there is much room in those for the foam, and may have to just use the Brown Bread.

Brown Bread can be purchased at: B-Quiet Sound Deadening

The acoustic foam panel can be purchased at: http://www.amistorefront.com

FRONT DOORS

Time to tackle the front doors. You need to remove the covers on the left exposing two screws. Remove the screw from the door latch.

Pry the covers up exposing two TORX screws. Remove these.

Remove these two screws.

Remove this screw.

Insert a small screwdriver in the wo locations on the right and pull the cover loose and to the right. Left arrow shows where hook goes

This shows how the covers lift exposing the TORX screws.

Pry the control panel out.

Wire connectors.

This is the speaker enclosure I got to protect the speaker from water.

I used the same spray adhesive I used to attach the accoustic foam to attach the covers to the speaker mounts.

Notice the damage to the stock speakers. I don't want this to happen to my Alpines!

Covered in Brown Bread.

I only used a small amount of accoustic foam on the front doors.

REAR DOORS

The back door is the first area I will cover (pun intended).

Remove the screw from the door latch.

Remove the screw from the door handle.

Pull the trom off the latch.

Remove the panel by pulling the pop snaps out. It's easier to start at a lower corner.

I removed the speaker mount.

This is what 70 sq. ft. of Brown Bread looks like. I will refer to it as BB from now on.

I removed the door latch.

Pop the cable housing our of the handle and remove the rod.

The Alpine SPS 170A fits like a glove.

I covered the door with 2' x 2' piece of BB. I cut the speaker hole out.

First draft of the foam on the rear door.

I tried covering the piece above the door latch handle, but it was too thick to snap the door back on.

A little more trimming on the foam for a better fit.

I ended up fillin each opening in the honeycomb with foam.

I filled in each gap.

Before the reinstall.

I had to trim away the BB at each location the pop snaps would go as it was too thick.

Rear wall covered with BB.

Foam glued on top of the BB.

Finished rear behind seat.
